Our Word Rich Classroom

Elm Class are becoming word ninjas!  'Big' is now gigantic, monstrous, enormous, or colossal.  Happy is now excited or elated and horrible is loathsome!

Elm have been using their words to write adventure stories and stories with a historical setting.  We have used our words to express our feelings and emotions, describe people and give compliments.  We have used words to to answer questions about our likes and dislikes and sing songs.

Each week we have a new word that we play around with and by the end of the week have created some epic sentences;

The crime scene was horrid and loathsome and smelly.

Friday's lunch was loathsome at St Auben's private school for boys.

Roo thought that the mould on the ceiling was loathsome.

Jack thought his disgusting banana and sprout sandwich was loathsome.

As a class we have read The Midnight Gang by David Williams and have just started Knights and Bikes.

Lloyd is really enjoying reading this year and is reading independently every day.  He started Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in the first week, then nailed the second one and is already half way through the third one - Prisoner of Azkaban.

Ronny has found a love for Dr Suess and has read; How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat in the Hat, Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose and The Lorax by Dr Suess. 

Jack is enjoying reading a series called Mr Dog, he has read Mr Dog and a Hedge called Hog and is now reading Mr Dog and the Seal Deal.  

Riley S is enjoying the short stories in The World's Worst Teachers by David Walliams. His favourite story so far is about Mr Pent Balls who has a deep and dark obsession about banning all balls from the playground.

Riley I is listening to Charlie Changes into a Chicken - so far Riley liked when he turned into a pigeon and ended up with lots of French pigeons falling in love with him.

Bradley is showing his excellent reading skills with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Old School.  Bradley likes that  the pet pig is treated better then the kid. Bradley is brilliant at using his phonics knowledge to read new tricky words.
